Lidar installation and training in Sao Paulo, Brazil
In March Kipp & Zonen and Raymetrics together with our local representative Campbell Scientific do Brasil installed a compact Raman Lidar system model LR-101-V-200. The installation and training took place at IPEN (Nuclear and Energetic Research Institute) of the Sao Paolo university campus.
The Lidar system will be used on five different sites in Brazil for the purpose of scientific research into atmospheric aerosols. This particular Lidar model was chosen for its measurement accuracy, portability, weather proof enclosure and advanced software.
Installation and training
Thanks to the turn-key operation of the system, the actual installation was performed in less than one hour.
During three days, each day a different group of 5 people from 5 different institutes attended a comprehensive training program. Including the operation and maintenance of the Lidar system as well as data processing and visualization.
After the installation the new LR-101-V-200 Lidar system and the previously acquired Lidar by IPEN, were operated simultaneously during the night. The resulting data from both Lidars were compared and showed excellent agreement.

Details of the LR-101-V-200 Lidar
The compact Raman Lidar system LR-101-V-200 is equipped with a powerful Nd:YAG Laser source emitting 130 mJ per pulse at 532nm (green). The receiving Cassegrainian telescope has a primary diameter of 200mm with custom made reflectivity coating.
The received backscatter is filtered using narrow bandwidth hard coated filters and detected using high quality PMT type detectors. The central data acquisition system from Licel ensures an excellent temporal and spatial resolution of the data.
The Lidar can be operated using the integrated industrial PC or remotely using the built-in Ethernet connection. The entire system is protected by an IP56 sealed enclosure making it fully weather proof.
With every Lidar system a full software suite is included free of charge. This software operates the Lidar and offers full data archiving, processing and visualization capabilities. In addition to the ready to run program, source code of the software is also included. This way expert users can fully customize the software.
