Product Engineer + Coordinator (1 FTE) for the Brewer business unit

The Brewer Spectrophotometer is a unique instrument that makes automated observations of the total Ozone column and SO2 and provides high quality UV spectra. There are hundreds Brewers installed around the world, spread over various meteorological networks and groups. Kipp & Zonen is the sole manufacturer of the instrument and the Product Engineers are member of the ‘Brewer User Group’ (BUG).

The internal Brewer team (location Delft) consists of the following professionals:

  • Product Engineer Brewer + Coordinator (vacancy)
  • Product Engineer Brewer
  • Technician Atmospheric Science instruments
  • Scientist

    This position is an interesting combination of Product Engineer tasks together with coordinating activities. As Product Engineer Brewer your main responsibility will be the assembling and testing of Brewer spectrophotometers according to established operating procedures and guidelines. Also among your duties will be to provide customer training as well as product-specific technical support, in order to ensure the instruments’ continued technical reliability in the field. In addition, as coordinator ( you provide the planning and coordination of the Brewer business activities. Together with your team member Product Engineer you fulfil the role as Brewer Specialist to external partners (in cooperation with the Scientist). The Brewer team reports to one of the board members.

    Responsibilities

  • In cooperation with our current Product Engineer Brewer:
  • Assembling the mechanical and electrical part of the Brewer spectrophotometers
  • Adjusting Brewer components
  • Testing and inspecting Brewer parts
  • Performing service and calibration duties (both locally and on location)
  • Conducting product-specific training (both locally and on location)
  • Providing customer support
  • Liaising with involved parties, e.g. purchasing department, suppliers, etc.
  • Initiating product improvement proposals
  • Technical support to sales for e.g. quotations

    As coordinator:
  • Planning of the Brewer business activities 
  • Coordinate and execute all day-to-day business (incl administration)
  • Management of all user documentation (including the Brewer user manual as well as measurement, testing and calibration reports)
  • In cooperation with Scientist and 2nd Product Engineer performing as Brewer specialist for internal and external partners (conferences, international Brewer-group etc.)

    Requirements

  • BS/MS degree in technical, physical or electrical engineering with functional knowledge of spectrophotometry
  • At least 3 years work experiences in a product engineers role within a technical company
  • Good coordinative skills (planning and coordination)
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability
  • Strong communicative skills (internal and external role as representative Engineer and Coordinator)
  • Result orientated and flexible to improvise
  • Ability to function independently when working on location
  • Excellent spoken and written English is a prerequisite; good knowledge of Dutch is preferable
  • Willing to worldwide traveling (up to approx. 15%)
