Published: Friday, January 20, 2017 Who can find the oldest, still operating, Kipp & Zonen pyranometer and win a trip to Amsterdam? We invite you to look out for old models of our pyranometers that are still operational after at least 25 years, photograph them and share them with us. We know there are many vintage pyranometers still measuring solar irradiance around the world but we would like to know where they are. Join us in the Kipp & Zonen Pyranometer Hunt!

Our instruments have an impressively long operating life when properly maintained. Calibration is important, but also regular checks and replacement of consumables such as the desiccant in drying cartridges. We receive models of pyranometers back for re-calibration at the factory that are well over 30 years old.

The rules and how to enter

Make a picture showing the label with the model and manufacturing date and submit it, with the location and your details, for our pyranometer hunt! Every entry that is working and at least 25 years old will be rewarded with a Kipp & Zonen goodie bag.

The winner will be invited to visit the Meteorological Technology World Expo, which takes place in Amsterdam from 10-12 October 2017!

Kipp & Zonen will pay for one economy class return air ticket from anywhere in the world to Amsterdam airport.

We will also arrange, and pay for, two night’s accommodation and breakfast at a hotel in Amsterdam and entry to the Expo.

All other charges, costs and expenses will be for the account of the winner.

The prize is strictly non-transferable, non-refundable and there is no cash alternative.

The closing date for Pyranometer Hunt entries is 31 July 2017 and the winner will be notified by 31 August 2017.

Please note that Kipp & Zonen employees, distributors and representatives are welcome to send pictures, but are not eligible to receive a goodie bag or to win the trip to Amsterdam.

Go to www.kippzonen.com/pyranometerhunt to enter the competition and please share your images on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram using #pyranometerhunt.

Our quality provides durability

When we ask our customers why they chose Kipp & Zonen, 99% reply with ‘quality’. Our instruments are known for their quality and accuracy and a long lifetime is a result of this quality. They are very durable and can operate in extreme climates. The materials we choose for manufacture are carefully selected and checked by our quality control department; all to ensure that you are satisfied and your expectations are exceeded.

Who has the oldest Kipp & Zonen pyranometer?

The first commercial Kipp & Zonen pyranometers were manufactured in 1924 and, if properly maintained, they could still be 100 % functional. Will you help us to get as close as we can to these original instruments? We look forward to receiving your pictures and please send them before 31 July 2017.
