LOGBOX SD Data Logger

NB: LOGBOX SD has reached its end of life and the last deliveries will take place in October, 2017. The replacement is the LOGBOX SE.

LOGBOX SD is an 8 channel data logger that allows connection to multiple instruments at the same time. Each input can convert measured values into engineering units. The data is stored on a 512 MB SD memory card that is included as standard.

Collecting meteorological parameters is a joint effort of a measuring instrument, such as a pyranometer, and a data logger. LOGBOX SD is the perfect logger for solar radiation and meteorological applications where the need is for high performance with portability and simple operation.

The six 24-bit high resolution single-ended analogue inputs can also be configured as up to three single-ended 24-bit inputs and there are an additional two 12-bit single-ended inputs. Four digital inputs are available for measuring time or frequency, or as counter inputs. The logger is suitable for all our instruments with analogue voltage, or pulsed voltage, outputs; including the Pt-100 and 10K thermistor temperature sensors fitted to some of our models.

Please note that that LOGBOX SD is not compatible with the Modbus® digital communication of our Smart radiometers and it cannot perform arithmetic functions, it records single measurement values at the chosen interval. For these more advanced features the LOGBOX SE data logger is required.

LOGBOX SD has an IP 65 weatherproof enclosure and a wide operating temperature range from -40°C to +60°C. The design consumes so little power that it will run for months on the four internal AA batteries and the wide power supply operating range makes it possible to use various types of external DC power sources.

The low power consumption, large storage capacity, wide temperature range and weatherproof box allow for months of unattended operation in remote locations. These features make LOGBOX SD the perfect logger for field use or in less complex solar monitoring installations.

LOGBOX SD is supplied with user-friendly Windows™ computer software to make configuration fast and simple, using RS-232 serial communication. Settings for most Kipp & Zonen radiometers are pre-defined and can be selected from a pull-down list. Other voltage output sensors can be programmed by selecting an input range and defining the calculation to convert measurements to engineering units, including polynomial functions.

The measurement and storage intervals can be set separately and the total storage time available is shown. The internal memory of 128 kB, like the 512 MB SD card, is non-volatile. Even without batteries the configuration of the logger and the data will remain stored. LOGBOX SD comes with a mounting bracket and clamps for fixing to poles up to 50 mm diameter.
