Lufft’s story began in Stuttgart in 1881, when Gotthilf Lufft founded Mech. Werkstatt G. Lufft. From the beginning, the company was built around measurement precision and reliability.
Over the decades, Lufft evolved from mechanical instruments to electronic environmental measurement. Its expertise expanded from local manufacturing to international applications, including meteorology, road weather, renewable energy and environmental monitoring.
That ability to evolve while maintaining a strong focus on dependable measurement helped establish Lufft as a recognised name in professional weather sensing. Its history includes early mechanical instrumentation, a patent for an aneroid barometer and the development of the first Lufft family of all-in-one weather stations.

Building on the globally trusted WS platform, Kipp & Zonen recently introduced the WS J-Series, the next generation of compact weather sensors. The portfolio combines the proven measurement technology that customers know from Lufft with enhanced diagnostics, faster data updates, and a modernized platform designed for future innovation.
The portfolio includes twelve models tailored to different applications. Depending on the selected model, a single compact instrument can measure parameters such as:
