Atmospheric Science Workshops in China

Atmospheric Science Workshops in Chinaarticle picture
Published: Tuesday, April 25, 2017 Our Technical Sales & Service Manager for China, Leo Teng, recently gave two training workshops on Kipp & Zonen atmospheric science instruments.

The instrument range includes the Brewer Spectrophotometer, LAS and X-LAS Scintillometers and the POM Sky Radiometers. He informed the participants about the measurement capabilities and applications of this range of instruments, with the aim of spreading their use across China.

The first workshop was by invitation of our distributor Beijing Techno Solutions Ltd. at the Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology on the 19th of April. Participants came from Nanjing University, Hehai University, the Institute of Soil Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (ISSCAS), Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Anhui Institute of Optics, and students and academic staff from other institutions in the East of China.

The second workshop was held in conjunction with our OEM partner Beijing Truwel Instrument Inc. at the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology (SCSIO) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Guangzhou. Measurement of solar radiation with pyranometers was also covered.

During the workshops there was a good level of communication and understanding with the participants and discussions about their measuring instrument requirements. Through the training sessions and the immediate feedback of the needs of our customers, we can also see the direction for the improvement of our after-sales services in China..

Brewer Spectrophotometer

The Brewer is a unique instrument, manufactured exclusively by Kipp & Zonen and is the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) standard for stratospheric Ozone measurement.

Because of its two spectrometers, the current Brewer MkIII model is particularly suitable for reference quality solar ultraviolet radiation measurements, UVA, UVB, UVE and UV Index, in addition to Total Ozone Column.

There are currently 10 Brewers in China and you can find them on the map at the dedicated Brewer website: www.kippzonen-brewer.com

LAS and X-LAS Scintillometers

The Large, and Extra-Large, Aperture Scintillometers measure heat fluxes between the ground and the atmosphere at large scales. These measurements are of great importance to the fields of meteorology, hydrology, urban climate and air quality, and energy balance studies. In agronomy, a scintillometer can be used as the heart of an evapotranspiration (ET) system.

Kipp & Zonen scintillometers and ET systems have been in use in China for many years, primarily for water resource studies.

POM Sky Radiometers

For studying the properties of stratospheric aerosols, the POM-01 and POM-02 make measurements of direct and diffuse solar and sky radiation at several narrow wavebands in the ultraviolet, visible and near-infrared parts of the spectrum. The POM Sky Radiometer is designed and produced in Japan by Prede Co. Ltd and is distributed by Kipp & Zonen.

A number of the POM’s in China are at stations within the global SKYNET aerosol monitoring network.

More to come

As these training workshops were received enthusiastically, more sessions will be held in the future with our sales partners in China.
